Starting at Sunset Chapter 4

Ally got mad at me today and I have no idea why. All I said was that I liked Ryan as a friend. I guess she was planning a way to hook us up. It was Wednesday and I was liking Ryan more than ever, but I didn't want to tell her. Our school has some weird problem where you tell secrets to you friends, they don't say a word and then the whole school knows. I didn't want that to happen to me. I also have another problem. Thomas Popular-Pants asked out Elaine and she said yes. So now my friend is extremely popular and she won't even smile at me anymore. I think Thomas is some kind of evil magician. I wanted to walk up and slap him. But then Elaine would get really mad, and at Lavina High, you don't want to make any one mad. Or at least that's what Ryan and Ally told me.

"Hey Ally," I whispered to her during Government,"is this just a phase for Elaine?"

"Elaine and Thomas went out last year. They broke up over the summer and now they're back together. Don't worry, she'll be talking to us in a couple days. She did the same thing last year." The last part was more of a mumble than a whisper. I didn't know why Ally was do down after that. She said it was just a phase, so why so sad? A couple days later I found out what she meant. Elaine had totally changed. She was really mean and aggressive towards me and Ally. Ryan tried to defend us but he and Thomas got into a big fist fight. Thomas was suspended for a week and unfortunatly Ryan had to be taken to the Hospital. The two got into a horrible fight which ended with a big bang on the head for Ryan by Thomas with a very heavy text book. He got a big gash from the corner of the book and lost a a lot of blood. I'm very worried. I was crying so hard that I was sent home. When I walked through the door crying, Tim got very worried.

"Dani are you ok?"

"No not really. Ryan was sent to the Hospital today, my friend Elaine is dating this guy who turned her into a monster, and now, if you don't mind, I would like to take a walk to the Hospital. I need the long walk."

"Um, ok. Just be careful."

I walked out the door again and straight to the Hospital. I cried the whole way. When I got there, visiting hours had just ended but Ryan's older brother said that it was ok for me to see him. I walked with him to Ryan's room. Ryan was lying on the bed with his eyes closed.

"I'm going to let the two of you have some alone time," Jeremy (Ryan's older brother) said. With that he left leavin me to start talking to a sleeping Ryan.

"Hey," I said, thinking of what to say to someone who didn't know what I was saying. "I think that you can guess who it is. I just wanted to say I'm sorry. I shouldn't have ever met you if I knew that this was coming. I recently talked to the docotor, and he said that there is a 50% chance of you getting out of this and, well, you know what the other 50 is. Honestly, and I feel kind of stupid telling you since it's Friday and I only met you 4 days ago, but I love you. I really do and I don't know how I could live without you if I loose you. And you probably don't feel the same, but this was the first oppertunity I had to say how I felt. I love you." And as if my words were magic, Ryan opened his eyes just a little bit and whispered the words, "I love you, too." Then he fell back asleep.
