I stood there in awe, wondering if it was a dream or if I was in some kind of coma. I tried to pinch myself, but Ryan stopped me before I could.
"It's not a dream Dani. This is real, whether you believe me or not."
"But why me Ryan? Why do I have to do this?"
"I would like to tell you but we don't have time. We have to get you to the city hall."
"You guys have a city hall?"
"It's the same as in your world, just a little different."
"How?" I glared at him as an uncomfortable feeling crawled up my body. Ryan looked at me with the expression of nervousness upon his face. I didn't know what to think. I'm helping my boyfriend who turns out to be some kind of mythological creature that isn't supposed to be real is now trying to get me to help him lead some kind of freakin' army that comes from some other world that's full of monsters. I was beginning to think that it really was the end of the world. Just, it would end a different way.
The meeting at the city hall was not what I was used to. There wasn't as much yelling as I thought there would be, but there was a good amount of it. I sat in my seat, slouching as the conversations grew longer. Finally, the meeting ended. I jumped out of my seat and ran to Ryan.
"So what's up?" I asked as I put my hands in the front pockets of my old worn out jeans.
"It's settled," he replied in a serious tone.
"What?"
" You're helping me. According to our maps and mind powers, the monster army should be here by tomorrow."
"Well that doesn't give us a lot of time now does it?"
"No, I need you to stay behind while I go out there tomorrow. If I end up being buried with dirt, the last of my powers will go to you and you'll become the new guardian of the human world." Ryan looked at me with a grave look. I could tell that he couldn't see himself coming out this fight alive. I looked at him and took his hand.
"When does it all start?" I asked worriedly.
"Well, they say that it's...," he looked at me with a small smile. He took my free hand and pulled me closer to him. "...starting at sunset." Then he leaned in closer to me and kissed me, once again, sending me into heaven.
